inside the darkness

Is it already new year?

I will never look at fireworks the same again
since it reminds me of
the last day you sat beside me
before the fire began, and you covered me with your body

It takes some long-mournful-moments for me
to write how I miss you now
to say how I thank you forever
to share how that day had traumatized me

I can’t imagine how to overcome
all the nightmares
but I know—I just know
that one day, the pain will subside
to see that inside the darkness
there is hope
there is love
there is peace

And you, dear friend—wherever you can see me
your sacrifice will not be in vain
may Allah rest your soul—and all the victims’—in peace
